To Donald Trump:Why won’t you share your tax returns with the American people? President Joe Biden has shared his returns, as has every president since President Richard Nixon. We have no returns from you since you were required to provide your 2015 to 2020 returns to the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. That committee found you claimed tens of millions in business losses in the returns it reviewed.Federal law prevents the IRS from discussing individual tax returns; however, you are free to disclose them. Seems to me, if you are the great businessperson you claim to be, you would want America to see your tax returns.It doesn’t make sense that you refuse to make your tax returns public for fear of prosecution. The IRS already has your returns. In fact, The New York Times and ProPublica report that a yearlong IRS audit of your taxes may result in a tax bill for you of over $100 million. It is only the American people you are keeping in the dark.
So why won’t you let us see your taxes? Without an explanation, reasonable people may suspect you are hiding something you don’t want us to know before we vote this November.Kenneth M. RalphEast Hempfield Township
