UAW President Shawn Fain has criticized former President Donald Trump’s visit to a non-union automotive parts manufacturer and supplier in Macomb County, Michigan, calling it a ‘pathetic irony.’ Fain made his comments during an interview on CNN’s ‘The Situation Room’ with Wolf Blitzer.
Fain stated that he has no intention of meeting with Trump, as he believes the former president does not care about what the workers and the working class stand for. He accused Trump of serving the billionaire class and claimed that this is what is wrong with the country.
When Blitzer suggested that Fain’s comments could be seen as an endorsement for President Joe Biden, the UAW president clarified that his remarks were not an endorsement for anyone, but rather his personal view of the former president.
The UAW, which represents over 400,000 workers in the United States, has not made an endorsement in the 2024 presidential election.
Fain’s criticism of Trump’s visit comes just a day after President Biden joined striking United Auto Workers on the picket line in Michigan. Biden visited UAW members in Wayne County and expressed his support for their cause.
The strike, which began after Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis failed to reach a contract agreement with the UAW, has led to production disruptions in the auto industry. UAW members are demanding double-digit pay raises and the elimination of worker tiers.
Meanwhile, Trump’s visit to the non-union company in Macomb County comes amid his claims that the transition to manufacturing electric vehicles will endanger the jobs of UAW members. However, Fain emphasized that one of the major reasons for the strike is to protect workers’ jobs in the face of these changes.
Fain also criticized Trump’s choice of location for his visit, highlighting the irony of the former president holding a rally for union members at a non-union business. He accused Trump of blaming UAW members during the Great Recession and spreading falsehoods about the union’s contracts.
The visit by Trump and Biden’s support for the striking UAW members have further highlighted the ongoing tensions between the labor movement and the political sphere. As the strike continues, the auto industry and the fate of UAW workers hang in the balance.

Trump doesn’t care about the working class, it’s all about the billionaires. I’m glad the UAW president called him out on it.
Trump’s visit to the non-union company shows his lack of support for the labor movement. It’s disappointing.
I don’t trust politicians, they all say one thing and do another. Let’s see if Biden actually follows through with his support for the workers.
Wow, it’s really interesting to see the dynamics between politicians and the labor movement. I hope that Biden’s support for the workers is genuine and that it leads to positive changes. It’s always important to hold politicians accountable and see if they follow through on their promises.
Trump only cares about the rich. He doesn’t care about us workers!
Trump doesn’t care about workers, it’s all about the billionaires for him.
It’s frustrating to see politicians use workers as pawns in their political games. Both sides seem more focused on scoring points than actually addressing the concerns of the working class. Hopefully, the strike will lead to meaningful change for the UAW members.
Trump visiting a non-union business is just a slap in the face to the UAW. He’s always been against unions.
It’s so hypocritical of Trump to visit a non-union business. He’s just trying to divide us!
I think Fain is just trying to push his own political agenda. He should focus on representing the workers instead.
I completely agree with you! It’s frustrating when politicians prioritize their own agendas over representing the needs of the workers. Fain’s criticism of Trump’s visit seems justified, especially if the former president has a history of not supporting the working class.
I don’t understand why the UAW president would criticize Trump’s visit. Isn’t it a good thing that a former president is showing interest in the workers’ issues? It seems like Fain has a personal bias against Trump.
Wow, it’s interesting to see the differing perspectives on Trump’s visit. Some people might see it as a positive, while others like Fain have their reservations. It’s always good to hear different viewpoints to get a well-rounded understanding of the situation.
Thank you for your comment. Fain’s criticism of Trump’s visit stems from his belief that the former president does not prioritize the interests of workers and the working class. Fain’s perspective is not about personal bias, but rather his view on what he believes is best for the UAW members and their jobs.
I agree with Fain, Trump only cares about the rich. He doesn’t understand the struggles of the working class.
It’s good to see Biden supporting the UAW members. They deserve fair pay and job protection.
It’s good to see Biden supporting the workers. I hope he can help bring about positive change.
It’s interesting to see the different perspectives on this issue. Both Trump and Biden seem to be making moves to support workers, but I wonder what the long-term impact will be. It’s definitely a complex situation.
I’m glad Biden supports the workers. We need someone who understands us.
It’s good to see President Biden showing support for the working class. I hope the strike leads to positive changes for UAW members.
It’s interesting to see the differing perspectives on President Trump’s visit and President Biden’s support for the UAW strike. The tension between the labor movement and politics is definitely a complex issue.
I agree with Fain, Trump only cares about the rich. He doesn’t understand the struggles of the working class.
I think Trump should have focused on supporting the UAW workers instead of visiting a non-union company. It’s disappointing.
I don’t understand why the President is involved in this strike. Shouldn’t he focus on bigger issues?
I totally get where you’re coming from! It does seem like a bit of a distraction for the President to be involved in this strike when there are so many other pressing issues. But hey, politicians gotta do what politicians gotta do, right?
I agree with Fain, it’s ironic that Trump visited a non-union company after all his claims about protecting workers’ jobs. It shows where his priorities really lie.
Thank you for sharing your perspective. It’s clear that there are differing opinions on Trump’s visit and his stance on protecting workers’ jobs. The ongoing tensions between the labor movement and the political sphere are certainly complex issues that require further examination.
